Extract tar without first directory on Red Hat

 

Create a tar file 

            # tar -cvf aaa.tar aaa/

List all files in a tar

        

    

# tar -tvf aaa.tar 

Extract the tar file to another location using -C and --strip options

    

        

# tar -xvf aaa.tar -C test1/ --strip 1
